Some quick news nuggets (updated with new Calvin Harris track)

1. Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris has teamed up with Kelis for his next single, 'Bounce', which he has teased recently. The video has been shot and tomorrow it will recieve it's first official radio play on Annie Mac's show on BBC Radio 1, so listen in from 7:00 pm BST to hear it in full.

Update: As promised it was played tonight so here it is

We'll keep you updated when we hear a release date, although whispers on the internet are saying 26th June.

Next is some potentially exciting news from Mr. Harris that we found out this morning. A "mystery group/artist" has provded some vocals to be put over 'Awooga', a song we featured last month, that served as the first single from his third studio album which should be out by the end of September at the earliest. We won't speculate over who this could be (as it could be anyone at the moment), but again we will keep you posted when we have some more concrete details.

2. Swedish House Mafia

Swedish House Mafia have announced that their next single, 'Save the World' (which features John Martin on vocals) will be released on 15th May in the UK and Ireland and 17th May Stateside. It premiered on Pete Tong's show last week. If you haven't heard it, check it out below, you might like it!

Feed Me to the Stars: coming soon on mau5trap

Feed Me is back with his second EP on mau5trap following the successful Feed Me's Big Adventure which was released on Christmas Day last year.

He has just announced Feed Me to the Stars which continues along the same lines as its predecessor, with the cleverly fused Electro-house with other influences such as Dubstep and the like. He has also collaborated again with Tasha Baxter, who contributed vocals to Cloudburn on the previous EP.

You can listen to four previews that have been uploaded to his SoundCloud account:

If you haven't already you can pick up Feed Me's Big Adventure on iTunes, and we will let you know when we have a release date for what is turning out to be another great release from Feed Me.

Update: Released 3rd June

Ministry of Sound Club: Residents - Michael Woods

As you may know we are massive fans of Michael Woods' production, and has a new album out today on Ministry of Sound. This isn't just another Ministry of Sound compilation, however. This is the first in a series of albums from the famous nightclub and record label of some of their resident DJs and producers. The first compilation consists of a selection of his previous tracks including 'First Aid', 'Dynamik' and 'Nitro', some remixes such as 'I Said' by deadmau5 & Chris Lake and 'Hello' by Martin Solveig & Dragonette and also some exclusive original tracks: 'Front Line', 'What's What' and 'Burned You Away', all of which are pretty good.

There is also a different version of the album which is exclusive to Beatport, and has another new track called 'VMS' and a slightly altered track listing and includes 'Banger' which is a collaboration with Mark Knight which came out on Toolroom Records in February.

For what you're getting it's a pretty good deal whichever version you choose, and we recommend you check it out as it's an amazing album!

You can purchase it from iTunesAmazon and Beatport.

Tune of the Week #5: 'Forever' by Wolfgang Gartner feat. will.i.am

Week beginning Monday 25th April 2011

Title: Forever
Artist: Wolfgang Gartner feat. will.i.am
Label: Ultra
Genre: Dance/Electro-House
Available: Now (US only)
Purchase: iTunes US
Listen: YouTube

On paper it looked like a disaster. Wolfgang Garter's normally top-rate production would be spoilt by some auto-tuned to death vocals by will.i.am. However, we found out soon after that this was recorded a year and a half ago, and it turns out the vocals are pretty good. The actual lyrics are a bit iffy, for example will.i.am mentions gangbangs. Nice. Apart from that, it's what we like to call a tune. Thumbs up for Joey Youngman aka Wolfgang Gartner, and a semi congratulations to will.i.am for not completely actually ruining a track. You can also get an instrumental if you don't like will.i.am's vocals!

'Changed The Way You Kiss Me': released 5th June

Hot off the press, Example has confirmed that his new Michael Woods-produced single, 'Changed The Way You Kiss Me', which is taken from his third studio album is out 5th June.

If you had forgotten how it goes, here it is again:

'I'm Still Hot' - Luciana (Update: EP out in July!)

Yes, you read that correctly. Luciana, the Queen of the Dancefloor has released her first solo single since I don't know how long. It's an amazing Dave AudĂ©-produced smasher, and we love it. We've followed her career of  featuring on other artists tracks since 'Yeah Yeah' way back in 2006, and it's now finally her time to shine off her own back.

It was released today through Violent Lips, and you can pick it up at iTunes (UK, US) or Amazon (UK, US).

P.S: Yes, she is still hot!

Update: You can catch Luciana in a new interview, where she confirms the rumours she has moved to LA permanently (but only 3 weeks ago) and said she will be releasing an EP in "July time". We can't wait!

Tune of the Week #4: 'Judas' by Lady Gaga

Week beginning Monday 18th April 2011

Title: Judas
Artist: Lady Gaga
Label: Interscope
Genre: Pop/Dance-pop
Available: Now
PurchaseiTunesAmazon
Listen: YouTube

Due to the quick thinking of her management, this has been released four days ahead of schedule Friday evening  after it was leaked throughout Friday, firstly with a few snippets of the chorus in the morning and then the whole thing which turned into a cat-and-mouse chase between YouTube uploaders and "UMG" (Universal Music Group) as they blocked videos, only for them to be re-uploaded by others. RedOne has done a fabulous job on production, and is generally quite good.

Lady Gaga - 'Judas'

We heard a snippet of the chorus this morning, and here's the whole thing:

Release: iTunesAmazon

Born This Way explored homosexuality, and this one religion, which has made some people annoyed. Despite all the kerfuffle, it's an amazing pop record.

Editorial: Digging your own grave

Music piracy is a massive problem; the labels know it, the artists know it and so do governments around the world. Despite music sales apparently on the rise again (thanks to Adele; however this will be short-lived), you would think the Labels would be doing what they could to make sure consumers bought music rather than stealing it, or at least contributed some money towards it through streaming services. It seems, however, that the labels are either too greedy or too ignorant and are killing themselves at the expense of the artist and the consumer.

Hurts - Better Than Love (Burns' European Sex Version)

Approximately 20 mintues ago Burns unveiled his remix of 'Better Than Love' by Hurts. We thought it was quite good, and so did Popjustice, who then decided to add some comments about the track, all of which are embedded below:

This will be included in the double A-side release of' 'Illuminated/Better Than Love', which comes out on 1st 9th May and also has remixes from Freemasons and Death in Vegas, which we hope are equally good.

You can buy their debut album, 'Happiness' (iTunesAmazon), which we highly recommend!

'Cinema' by Benny Benassi feat. Gary Go

Just a quick post about an awesome song.

The story behind this one is that Skrillex remixed the song a while back, but it leaked late last year ages before it was meant to have been heard. The original was used in the game Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and we think the original and the Skrillex remix both deserve some recognition.

Original:

Skrillex remix:

Both versions along with a host of other remixes (e.g. Laidback Luke) have already been released in the US, and a UK release is expected on 24th April 2011 in June.

'She Blows (Whistle Tune)' - Time Takers (updated x2)

This certainly won't appeal to everyone, but many thanks to @FarisRR for telling us about it!

When Mistajam first played this, he described Time Takers as a "crew", but other than that we have no other information about them; whether they are the producers or vocalists or both, we don't know.

What we do know is it's an absolute bomb with that incredible dirty Dutch House sound, so don't be surprised if you hear more about it this summer.

Update: We found them! Time Takers have a Twitter account (@timetakersmusic), and consist of two guys on production called Alex and Damian. Their Facebook is personal account at the moment, not a page so you can't like them.

Update 2: We got in touch with the guys from Time Takers, and they also have a SoundCloud page you can visit and a Facebook page you can like. From their SoundCloud we have found the chat they had with Mistajam where you can find out more about them:

What we learnt:

  • They're quick workers
  • They like Deadmau5, among other artists
  • They're "officially" unsigned at the moment, although "major" labels are interested
  • They use Logic (although we're not surprised)
  • They "don't get out" (!)
  • They're unbelievably honest with their musical taste (George Michael, Cydni Lauper, etc.)
  • The inspiration comes from the fact that Damian can't whistle well and involved a bearded lady
  • "Women buy records"
  • There's a "part two" coming up

Fingers crossed they get signed very soon as the song is amazing.

To all late arrivals

As you may or may not know, tonight marks the end of a career of a legendary band. Faithless, after 15 years and 6 studio albums, have now disbanded.

Their final performance is taking place right now (at the time of writing) at O2 Academy Brixton, and they will be remembered for hits such as the timeless 'Insomnia' and 'We Come 1'.

We are, however, slightly appalled by Sony's decision to release another compilation of three of their albums to coincide with this event, which seems rather greedy and distasteful in our opinion.

We have and always will have fond memories of the last of their generation of live dance acts, and hope others can pick up the mantle.

R.I.P. Faithless, 1996 -  2011.

Bodyrox are back!

We'll admit, we were worried about Bodyrox.

Having written and produced a track for N-Dubz, we were concerned they were heading in this direction, but don't be afraid as they are going to have a string of songs released this "summer"; under the Bodyrox name and solo material. Nick Bridges, one half of the duo, gave an interview to Guru Bites, and here's what we learnt from it:

  • Firstly, they have a new Bodyrox single called 'Bow Wow Wow', which presumable features the vocals of Luciana, but this is unconfirmed so we will have to wait for details on this. They also want it to feature one of the "big UK rappers" to give it a "commercial twist", which they hope for a summer release.
  • Next up is 'You Love Your Sneakers', which is by Nick Bridges and features Chipmunk (uh oh). We are not sure whether this song is the one that Fedde le Grand mentioned in an interview with DJ Mag in August 2010. He talked about a collaboration between himself, Bodyrox and Chipmunk, but presumably he would have mentioned it if it was. Nick also spoke of teaming up with a "big sportswear" manufacturer to promote the track.
  • Another solo release from Nick Bridges is with Amanda Wilson, who has provided her vocals to Freemasons a couple of times and also sang on 'Seek Bromance' by Tim Berg (aka Avicii). This new song is the follow up to 'Underneath My Skin' which was released in 2009 on Roger Sanchez's Stealth label.
  • Finally, Nick Bridges and Bodyrox partner Jon Pearn have recorded a "main room" track which should also be released soon, but will not be a Bodyrox song.

That's a lot of news, we know, so let's hope we get to at least hear them all, unlike 'Rubba Dubba', which should have been released by now. If only the summer would come sooner.

Laidback Luke and Example collaboration

So we're just strolling round the internet, reading people's set lists from Ultra, and discover a song by Laidback Luke and Example! (well kinda)

Chemical Jump lists Laidback Luke's Ultra set list here, and apparently his final track is called 'Natural Disaster', and despite playing only the instrumental, it features the one and only Example:

We have no infomation about labels or release dates on this one, but we're obviously really excited about this one. This could really turn out to be Example's summer.

Some new stuff from The Drums

These guys totally rock. They blew our minds last year with their debut album, and it appears they have written at least one new song for a new release, recorded from a sound check:

The YouTube video calls the song 'Money', stays true to their original sound (which is a good thing), and we like Jonathan Pierce's vocals on this one, which shows how credible they are as a live act.

You can catch The Drums in the UK at Lovebox and Bestival this summer, and they're touring Australia and Asia in the next couple of months.

Don't forget to Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
