deadmau5 - Professional Griefers (Vocal Mix preview) [update 25/12]

What we have below is what we believe to be deadmau5's next single, the vocal mix of 'Professional Griefers'. We're not sure on who the vocalist is, but there is one female singer that is meant to have recorded something with deadmau5 recently. Candadian singer Lights was due to collaborate with deadmau5 last year, and there is the possibility it could be her vocals, albeit heavily processed.

Another possibility is athat this is the Imogen Heap track which has the working title of 'Telemisscommunications'. We also have our doubts since it appears the vocals have only just been recorded recently for the track. Or we could be wrong.

Another candidate could be Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If you listen to their song 'Heads Will Roll', there is a distinct similarity in the vocals with the set rip of 'Professional Griefers' below:

This track first surfaced as an instrumental track during a Ustream session in February, and someone (not deadmau5) named it 'Deer Bus'. Turns out it's actually called 'Professional Griefers' and we reckon this is the vocal version of it.

We'll keep you updated for when the full track hits and we know who the vocalist is!

Think it's someone else? Let us know in the comments.

Update:

So last night (24/12) on Ustream deadmau5 played basically the same clip again but with re-recorded vocals from mystery vocalist.

IT'S GERARD WAY.

Here's the new vocals (skip to about 3:00):

Here's a video from All Leather:

God can't hear you,
They will fight you,
Watch them build a friend just like you.
Morning sickness,
XYZ,
Teenage girls with ESP

Week beginning Monday 29nd August 2011

Title: Stay Awake
Artist: Example
Label: Ministry of Sound
Genre: Dance
Available: Now
DownloadiTunesAmazon

Seeing as Ministry of Sound don't like the "on air, on sale" policy some of the major labels have adopted, 'Stay Awake' has been doing the rounds on radio for quite a few weeks now, debuting on radio at the start of July. Nero are on production duties on this one, creating a "commercial"-sounding track. 'Playing in the Shadows' is out next week.

A video has been shot for 'Static' with guest appearances from deadmau5 and SOFI.

Swedish House Mafia to host Pete Tong's show on 16th September, "huge announcement" follows a week later

The three Swedes that everyone has heard of are going to host Pete Tong's show on Friday 16th September. They promise "new" music from many people inclusidng themselves so this is not to be missed. We will post the set up on here soon after broadcasting.

If you were to visit 230911.com right now you would see this teaser:

Swedish House Mafia have something big to announce. We're guessing it has something to do with the interview Axwell gave to MTV regarding the possibility of a proper studio album from the boys.

'When MTV News caught up with Steve Angello recently, though, he told us nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Angello revealed, SHM have more than 15 songs ready to go, but the group is toying with how to release their new material.

"This is the thing ... we have a lot of records," Angello confessed. "We have singles; we have all the material to make an album. But it's like, do we want to stick with the traditional album ways or do we want to do something different? And I think, as Swedish House Mafia works, I think we do something different." '

So we reckon that this "different" album could be linked to what they have to announce on Friday 23rd September. We'll leave you with one of their recent Facebook updates:

‎"23.09.11 we will be coming with a HUGE announcement. There will be clues about the announcement flashing occassionally here www.230911.com and catch clues on the screens at Creamfields. We couldnt be more honoured about this. Even though its big...it's really something we;re doing for all those who love our scene which remains one of the best kept secrets in the world."

Week beginning Monday 22nd August 2011

Title: Feel So Close
Artist: Calvin Harris
Label: Sony
Genre: Dance

By popular demand, Calvin is back singing. Not live, mind you as V Festival goers would have discovered last weekend. The single EP also has some cool remixes on it from Nero, Benny Benassi and Dillon Francis.

SOFI to release an EP September/October time!

Yes, you heard right. An EP from SOFI out on mau5trap in September or October.

We're excited.

We know there will be tracks on there produced by Skrillex and Zedd. Maybe even the Nosia or Millions Like Us tracks could make an appearance. We're not sure.

But we're excited.

Skrillex - Right Here

So we've heard 'Voltage', and now we bring you 'Right Here'. Since this is studio quality, presumbaly this has leaked like his 'Born This Way' remix after his laptop was stolen in Italy.

Skrillex has now finished a studio album which he told Rob da Bank last week will be out in the next couple of months. Exciting stuff!

Skrillex officially announces his record label Owsla, launches 31st August

Skrillex talked about his label, Owsla, in an interview recently and revealed one of the first artists to be signed was producer Porter Robinson. Well Owsla has now officially got going with three other artists added to the roster.

Koan Sound, Alvin Risk and M Machine have all been signed to Owsla, and the label has also got some personnel signed up too; Skrillex's manager Tim Smith, Kathryn Frazer and Clayton Blaha have all signed on as business partners.

What kinds of artists can we expect to be signed to Owsla? Blaha told Billboard.biz: "Artists will be hand selected by Skrillex and the Owsla team in an effort to unite under a cohesive theme of friendship and integrity - as well as bass".

Porter Robinson's EP, 'Spitfire', will be released 13th September, which was brought forward a week only yesterday.

If you head over to Owsla.com, you will find a countdown clock which says "preparing for launch in", indicating the label will launch on Wednesday 31st August.

The video at the top of the post is the third and final teaser video for the label. The child who hits Skrillex is his brother!

Update: It still hasn't launched! We'll keep you informed.

Tune of the Week #16: Sunlight by Modestep

Week beginning Monday 15th August 2011

Title: Sunlight
Artist: Modestep
Label: Polydor
Genre: Dance/Dubstep
Available: Now
DownloadiTunesAmazon

The London-based band are only onto their second single but are now signed to a major label and seem to have a lot of momentum behind them with support from across the blogosphere, BBC Radio 1 and over 100,000 Facebook likes! 'Sunlight' is the natural progression from previous single 'Feel Good', and with Nero currently sitting on top of the UK singles chart right now, Dubstep seems to cementing itself in popular music.

(Apologies for being a day late with TOTW this week!)

Avicii and Leona Lewis sides reach agreement on plagiarism accusations

Swedish producer Avicii and Leona Lewis' sides have finally reached an agreement on the claims that Lewis' new single 'Collide' copies Avicii's song 'Fade into Darkness'.

If you're unfamiliar with the story, last month Leona Lewis unveiled her new single and it sounded suspiciously familiar to Avicii's instrumental track 'Penguin' which became vocal track 'Fade into Darkness'. The instrumental had been shopped around to different people, but ultimately Avicii's management decided he would release it with vocals from another artist.

Leona's camp had heard the track and decided that despite not having permission they would re-make Avicii's track for Leona under the name 'Collide'.This caused a backlash from Avicii and Ministry of Sound, who intended to release 'Fade into Darkness'; Avcii accused Leona Lewis of "lying" and Minitstry of Sound said Syco (Leona's label) were "stealing". 'Collide' producer Sandy Vee hit back by saying that Avicii had been credited as a songwriter on the track and would receive publishing rights. Avicii claimed that he nor his management had signed any legal documentation which suggested this.

Eventually, Avicii and his management went to the High Court in London last Monday to take on Lewis' management and Syco and request an injunction to stop the release of 'Collide' on 4th September.

Today the battle came to and end, with Avicii tweeted: "We've finally come to an agreement with Leona on all the issues. So happy to move on and focus on hit making!". He said he was "happy to move on with Leona and focus on having a hit together." This suggests that possible it will be credited as a "Leona Lewis & Avicii" track, which seems plausible.

We don't know the full details right now but presumably 'Collide' will be released as planned in September. No news as to whether 'Fade into Darkness' will get a release though. We'll do some digging and let you know!

Update:

Nero - Crush On You

After hearing this track at Wireless we became addicted and it came out yesterday on Nero's debut album, 'Welcome Reality'. It's a remix of The Jets' song of the same name.

David Guetta - Glasgow (from the album Nothing But The Beat)

When it comes to David Guetta's new album 'Nothing But The Beat', we're only interested in the second disc which only features instrumental songs. Annie Mac tonight had the first radio play of one of these tracks, 'Glasgow'.

Why the name? He first played it in Glasgow.

'Nothing But The Beat' is released 29th August.

deadmau5 - Professional Griefers

Well, since every other blog in the history of the universe has posted about it, we thought we ought to as well.

This used to be called 'Deer Bus' if it sounds familiar, and is now 'Professional Griefers'. The video above is from Lollapalooza last Sunday where deadmau5 debuted his new show.

In terms of a release, this is the next 'Ghosts 'n' Stuff' in a sense; vocals are to be added and presumably the single will be serviced to radio stations. No news on the vocalist (it will be female) or a release date.

Get Em - Wolfgang Gartner feat. Eve

There's only two featured artists on Wolfgang Gartner's debut album; will.i.am features on 'Forever', and the other is Eve on the opening track 'Get Em'.

Wolfgang has been playing the song in his set and brought Eve on at EDC Las Vegas to perform the track live, which you can see in this video.

'Weekend in America' is released 20th September in the US.

Eric Prydz in Concert returns to Alexandra Palace in November

After the sell-out show at O2 Brixton Academy back in April and performance at Global Gathering this year, Eric Prydz's EPIC show returns for his final appearance in London this year on Saturday 26th November 2011 at Alexandra Palace.

In a similar set up to UKF Bass Culture, it will be an 18+, all night affair with a further 30 acts to be announced across four stages.

To get access to pre-sale tickets and to download a free Pryda or Mouseville track, head over to www.epiclondon.com. The pre-sale tickets go on sale next Wednesday 17th August and general release on the Friday.

#edmquitssmoking2k11 (updated: Steve Angello loses)

After watching this video last night deadmau5 was inspired to start the #edmquitssmoking2k11 movement on Twitter to try and kick the habit. Producers/EDM people to have joined the movement so far are:

deadmau5
Skrillex
Tommy Lee
Steve Angello

(Zedd also supports the movement.)

We tried to recruit Wolfgang Gartner but he hasn't tweeted in about 13 hours so is probably unaware the whole thing is happening. Poor guy.

The first person to smoke and get caught has to donate the amount spent on cigarettes in a year to charity. We urge you Lindsey Gayle, SOFI, Isabel Adrian and Feed Me (LOL) to report your other halves if you catch them smoking!

Update: Steve Angello has admitted on Twitter he has lost and now has to donate the equivalent of a year's supply of cigarettes to charity. No news on which charity though.

Porter Robinson to release Spitfire EP in September on Owsla

Porter Robinson has announced the name and release date for his forthcoming EP. Spitfire will be released on 13th September on Skrillex's Owsla label.

No news on tracklisting right now but we'll keep you posted.

Forever by Wolfgang Gartner set for October UK release

A track which we've listened to for a while is finally getting a UK release. Ministry of Sound will release 'Forever', Wolfgang Gartner's collaboration with will.i.am (it's not too bad, don't worry), on 9th October 2011 as the second single from his forthcoming album 'Weekend in America'. It's due for release in the States in September and some time in 2012 in the UK. We've already told you about the weird video with will.i.am as a sperm. Here it is again:

Yeah, so about Madeon's EP...

So we wrote a post back in May when Madeon's remix of Raise Your Weapon blew up, and he answered a load of questions he'd been receiving from fans. He said "if everything goes right" he would release an EP in July. Well obviously July has been and gone but do not despair - something he tweeted last night gives us hope that it's coming soon:

As soon as we have more info on Madeon's four track, Tasha Baxter-featuring EP we'll let you know!

Moguai - Oxygen (Mike Duz Remix)

We thought Madeon was young (16 when we heard his Raise Your Weapon remix) but Mike Duz, who also happens to be French, tops that at 14 years old. But let's not dwell on his age as Mike is super talented regardless. He's done a great progressive remix of Moguai's next single, Oxygen, which features the vocals of Fiora. Take a listen to the preview below:

The release date is unknown as of yet, but it is due to be the next release on mau5trap so hold tight.

Mike also has a quite extensive back catalogue of released singles and remixes; we quite liked his take on Dada Life's 'Unleash The F**king Dada'.

After seeing Nero at Wireless we were impressed by them and now the trio are gearing up to release their debut album and tour the UK. 'Promises' is the fourth single from 'Welcome Reality' which you can pick up next week. Again we are treated to Alana's vocals which really fit their Dupstep-based sound. Also check out the Calvin Harris and Skrillex & Nero remixes - they're pretty awesome too.

Skrillex - Voltage

This needs to be released, and quickly.

deadmau5 live at Space, Ibiza on BBC Radio 1 (set download)

Last night, BBC Radio 1's output was rather special. For 12 hours they were live from Ibiza as part of the station’s annual Ibiza event. Annie Mac and Pete Tong broadcasted while hosting a free event at Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. Their guests included Carl Cox, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiësto and Example, who performed a couple of songs. Afterwards, a 6 hour Essential Mix began which included Zane Lowe, Knife Party, Magnetic Man and deadmau5.

Despite starting his Meowingtons Hax tour at Lollapalloza, Chicago on Sunday, deadmau5 travelled to Space, Ibiza to play a 1 hour 20 minute set live on air. There was no Dubstep to be found, just a very progressive set with some interesting mashups and alternative versions of songs, of which we’ve embedded below.

Raized By Wolves - The Call

Who are Raized By Wolves? We don't know either. All we know is that they're signed to mau5trap and have released their debut single, 'The Call' on Beatport for download (5th September on iTunes). It features the vocals of Tom Smith from The Editors. Take a listen to the vocal and instrumental mixes below:

Zedd added as support for Meowingtons Hax tour, more dates announced and mau5head contest winner revealed

So Zedd is joining Excision and Tommy Lee & DJ Aero in supporting deadmau5 on his Meowingtons Hax Tour which hits the road on 11th August in Vancouver after deadmau5 plays Lollapalooza in Chicago this Sunday. Zedd recently completed the Owsla tour across North America and has produced a track with SOFI which they will very likely perform together on this tour.

In more Meowingtons Hax tour-based news, there have been some more dates added to the tour including a new date in Illinois. Check out the full list of tour dates over on deadmau5' website.

Finally, the winner of the deadmau5 mau5head contest was announced a couple of days ago with Lance Thackeray from the UK winning.

Free download: Natural Disaster (Instrumental) by Laidback Luke

We thought we might like to share this with you guys. The track which we made Tune of the Week last month and will be released soon with Example's vocals over it has been made available for free just weeks after being released on Beatport.

You can download the track for free over on SoundCloud.

(We're aware that for some reason Ministry of Sound has removed the track but if it comes back we'll stick it on here)

Luciana working with Benny Benassi, new single in September

Luciana has given another insightful interview, and this time it's with unWIREDTV:

You can watch the whole thing in the video above, but in short Luciana is working with Benny Benassi which we hope to hear very soon. She also plans to bring out a new single in mid-September and the EP that was meant to be coming out in July is still in the works. If you're in Japan and Australia look out as Luciana is heading your way soon!

Nervo, Afrojack & Steve Aoki - We're All No One (Preview)

When Nervo were interviewed by MTV about their hook-up with Afrojack and Steve Aoki, Miriam said: "It doesn't sound anything like Afrojack or anything like Steve Aoki."

Well judging by this snippet it's going to be good. And we can't get over the fact that Nervo are as good singing as they are producing.

Afrojack and Nervo have previously collaborated on 'The Way We See The World', the official anthem of Tomorrowland 2011.

Update: ArjanWrites.com have the whole track, take a listen.

deadmau5 to announce new European tour

This is by no means a surprise; as with any massive artist who is constantly touring they are always going around the world playing for fans. The way in which this has been let slip is quite intriguing though.

Puma and deadmau5 have collaborated on some shoes and clothing which you can take a look at here. As part of the promotion, one lucky person and a friend can win VIP tickets to a forthcoming deadmau5 gig in Europe. The terms and conditions then state that "dates TBD November". This could mean that the tour will be in November (possibly), dates for the tour will be announced this November (seems unlikely though) or that the winners will be notified to which date they have won (most likely), inferring that a tour of Europe is scheduled for around this time.

Excision, Tommy Lee & DJ Aero are all joining deadmau5 on his Meowingtons Hax tour of North America, which begins this weekend at Lollapalooza, and finishing up in Toronto on 5th November.

DAL - Music EP

So we received this on our SoundCloud yesterday and we liked it so much we thought we'd post about it.

DAL makes dubstep/electro and it's quite good to say the least. 'Dub Life' was the track he sent us; take a listen below:

Another favourite from his EP is 'Electro Life':

You can pick up his 6 track 'Music' EP on iTunes and Amazon.

Chicane's new album: Thousand Mile Stare

Chicane's new album is called 'Thousand Mile Stare' and is out "late September".

Two tracks have been confirmed from the album: 'Going Deep' and title track 'Thousand Mile Stare', which you can listen to a preview of below:

'Going Deep' is first single from the album and is to be released 14th August 2011.

Laidback Luke signs to Ministry of Sound

Here's some interesting news. Laidback Luke has signed to Ministry of Sound in the UK, and unsurprisingly 'Natural Disaster' is the first single.

It's the collaboration with Example which we told you about back in April, and is to be included on Example's forthcoming album 'Playing in the Shadows', but is not an official single from the album. The Instrumental was released last month on Luke's own Mixmash Records.

The vocal mix of 'Natural Disaster' is released on 25th September including remixes from Skream and Benny Benassi.
